The castle is a huge medieval fortress perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Dordogne Valley.
Other medieval castles are scattered around the valley and can be seen in the distance, in every direction.
The castle was first and foremost a military complex that saw plenty of action during the 100 Years War. Along with other castles of the region, it changed hands between the English and the French forces several times over the course of the war.
The armor and weapons on display were at the cutting edge of the military technology of the times, designed to kill or maim as many enemy forces as possible.
The complex and very elaborate architecture was designed to keep invading forces at bay.
The reconstructed war machines on display were very impressive and the kids were very engaged by the explanations given by the tour guide on how they worked.
Both Joy and Tristan quickly became fascinated with some of the models made available to kids for practice.
In fact, it did not take too long for them to start plotting how to convince Mom and Dad to let them buy a really cool one to bring back home.
"Do you think they would let us get this one for the backyard if we told them it would match our swing set?"
Having thwarted the strategic plan devised by the evil Gagnon children, the victorious parents led the whole group back home after an exciting visit, even if some were a bit disappointed in not getting a really cool souvenir...
