On the Road to Dordogne

After packing up all our belongings, we hit the road around 9:30 a.m. to set off for our next new home in the Dordogne. We decided to stop along the way in Limoges. We were immediately thrilled to discover that it was actually permissible to sit on the grass, so we took advantage of this rare opportunity to have a picnic.

Being in Limoges, we wanted to look at some china in the nearby shops, but they were closed for their afternoon "siesta," so we thought we'd go for a coffee first. Michael, of course, had to check out the desserts and was gobsmacked to see this huge bowl beside a cake. Of course, we had to try this dessert, which is called "île flottante." Basically, it's whipped egg whites i.e. soft meringue floating in a caramel sauce. We loved the decadence of it and consoled ourselves by highlighting the fact that it would be considered a low-cholesterol dessert.

Since Vicki inherited some Haviland china from her mother, we decided to visit the factory just outside of Limoges. In the factory, they also had a museum of Limoges china with very creative displays.

Upon our arrival in Le Bugue in the Dordogne after our circuitous but scenic route, we had time to have dinner overlooking the Vézère River before Mario had to leave to pick up Kate, the newest addition to our travelling troupe.
