Sarlat-la-Canéda

The beautiful mediaval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda is very touristy but is a total delight to visit. The historic district was slated for demolition in the 1950's, but luckily, someone thought it might be a good idea to preserve and restore the district. It was fun to walk through the cobble-stoned streets and enjoy some shopping and food. The houses are very old, yet the whole area is very vibrant. It is not only for tourists, people live there.

In addition to the old architecture and decorations, there are nice modern sculptures to be found around.

We spent some time listening to a very fun group of older Roma musicians playing a variety of Tzigane songs. They sounded great and were very expressive.

Here's a short sample of their music...

Even Joy got into the mood...

Another important aspect of Sarlat is the food, especially all the delicious dishes made with fattened geese and duck.

In fact, geese can be found everywhere in this town.

Even our kids enjoyed sitting on the famous bronze statues found at the old Marché des Oies.
